Grand Seiko Heritage Collection Mechanical Hi-Beat 36000 SBGH349 "Icefall"
A high-frequency mechanical watch depicting the fantastic scenery of a frozen waterfall on its dial.

Grand Seiko unveils the SBGH349, a remarkable new timepiece that captures the ethereal beauty of a frozen waterfall, a breathtaking natural phenomenon often seen in the depths of winter on Mount Iwate. This high-beat mechanical watch, featuring an innovative dial pattern, pays homage to this stunning scene, embodying the artistry and precision for which Grand Seiko is renowned.

The dial of the SBGH349 is a tribute to the Nanataki Waterfall in Hachimantai, Iwate Prefecture, where massive icicles form during the coldest time of the year. The intricate pattern and color of the dial capture the dynamism of this frozen wonder, reflecting the mysterious bluish-white hues of the ice, and bringing this serene winter scene to life on the wrist.

This new timepiece also honors Grand Seiko’s rich heritage in mechanical watchmaking, tracing its roots back to the introduction of Caliber 9S in 1998. Caliber 9S marked a significant milestone, setting new standards in performance and craftsmanship for Grand Seiko.

The design calls back to the era of the Caliber 9S debut, when lead designer Nobuhiro Kosugi and his team introduced a new aesthetic grounded in the Grand Seiko Style. This design philosophy, which aimed to create the “best possible practical watch,” at that time has been inherited to Grand Seiko’s identity. The SBGH349, measuring 40mm in diameter and 13mm in thickness, embodies Kosugi’s original vision while celebrating the natural beauty of Shizukuishi. Crafted from High-intensity titanium, the case is paired with a bracelet featuring a three-fold clasp, ensuring both durability and comfort.

At the heart of this timepiece is the Hi-Beat Caliber 9S85, a high-frequency mechanical movement that operates at 10 beats per second. This movement delivers stable precision by minimizing variations in accuracy. It also offers a practical power reserve of approximately 55 hours when fully wound.  With this release, Grand Seiko not only showcases its unparalleled craftsmanship but also its deep connection to the natural beauty of Japan. The SBGH349 will be available at Grand Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide beginning in January 2025.
